The Project – Olympic Dam Acid Tank Construction
Located 560 kilometres north of Adelaide, Olympic Dam is one of the world’s most significant deposits of copper, gold, silver and uranium.
Olympic Dam is made up of underground and surface operations and operates a fully integrated processing facility from ore to metal.
The underground mine is made up of more than 450 kilometres of underground roads and tunnels. Ore mined underground is hauled by an automated train system to crushing, storage and ore hoisting facilities.
The processing plant consists of two grinding circuits in which high-quality copper concentrate is extracted from sulphide ore through a flotation extraction process. Olympic Dam has a fully integrated metallurgical complex with a grinding and concentrating circuit, a hydrometallurgical plant incorporating solvent extraction circuits for copper and uranium, a copper smelter, a copper refinery and a recovery circuit for precious metals.
A late notice project with specialised automatic welding equipment our solution involved several automatic tank welders, vertical welders, power generation equipment and electrical distribution. We also provided new cross link welding technology which reduces the need to control voltages at the welding power sources. Renteca in partnership with our client developed the tank welder specifications, accelerated the manufacturing and import of the custom double sided welders.
Renteca also provided the tank welding equipment during the client’s weld prequalification period from existing stock in their Brisbane depot.
Power generation products, electrical switchboards and cabling, inverter welders using cross link technology dual sided tank welders.
